We're still completing the items outlined in our previous updates, namely including enhancing Tor server capabilities and making a variety of minor improvements.

Please note, that we are observing a delay that is impacting the development process of Particl Desktop which we are working on resolving.

We're excited to share a significant milestone for Litecoin on BasicSwap DEX: the successful completion of the initial phase of integrating MimbleWimble swaps!

We now have a functional integration that enables you to deposit, send, and convert funds between standard Litecoin balances and those powered by MimbleWimble. While this integration is still in the testing phase and not yet ready for a full production roll-out, it represents a major step forward and has been updated on BasicSwap's dev Github branch.

Our next focus is addressing the management of change during the conversion from regular LTC to MWEB balances. Currently, the change from such conversions also becomes MWEB but remains in the regular address instead of transitioning to MWEB. Resolving this will be one of our main goals in the coming week.

New Coin Core Updates ✅

We've recently rolled out updates for two coin cores: Firo and Litecoin. As always, we strongly recommend that you keep your core nodes updated to the latest versions, which is particularly important in this instance as both Firo and Litecoin have upcoming hardforks — Firo with the introduction of Lelantus, and Litecoin with the full integration of MWEB.

Installation Wizard 🧙‍♂️

We've successfully completed testing BasicSwap's installation wizard version 2.0 for Windows last week and are now testing it for OSX. It is nearly ready to pre-release it.

As a new addition, the updated installer now lets you update the DEX, and also includes additional scripts to update its dependencies and launch the application (not just install it) by double-clicking on an icon.

User Interface (GUI 2.1) 🖥️

We are making steady progress on finalizing version 2.1 of BasicSwap's user interface, and need a few extra days to finish everything up.

Note that, this week, we've incorporated changes to the user interface to support the new Litecoin balance types. Additionally, we've made the necessary modifications to accommodate multi-wallet functionality, which will be required if coin cores need this feature.

  • Investigate and fix issue with wallet unlock getting stuck at SecureMsgWalletUnlocked
  • Make BasicSwap multi-wallet capable
  • Rename rpc_callback -> call_rpc

Privacy Coins Getting Delisted ⚡️

As regulatory pressure on privacy coins intensifies, the relevance of BasicSwap DEX continues to grow. This was highlighted this week by the actions of several exchanges either delisting privacy coins or demanding the addition of transparent features, limiting their privacy aspects.

We want to reiterate that BasicSwap DEX stands firm in its commitment to user privacy. It will never ask you to verify your identity, impose arbitrary limits on you, nor will privacy coins ever be delisted. The DEX is designed to be completely resilient, operating without centralized control or interference.

Looking ahead to 2024, with planned milestones such as web compatibility, light nodes, remote services, and more coin listings, the year promises to be a significant one for BasicSwap. These developments will not only enhance the DEX but also contribute significantly to the ongoing fight for our privacy and freedom.
