This is a significant milestone for the Particl network as its makes MEXC the most accessible and widely used exchange platform on which PART can now be traded. Notably, it allows for withdrawals of up to 30 BTC per day without the need for intrusive KYC verifications.
We're optimistic that this new listing, along with the new trading tools it renders accessible to the community such as Hummingbot for example, will improve the trading environment and conditions for the PART coin, effectively broadening its accessibility to a wider audience than ever before since the project's initial launch in 2017.

As we conclude the week, it is time to review the progress that has been made in the past few days. Let us take a moment to evaluate the advancements achieved in the past few days.
This week, we've continued our efforts towards incorporating new coins into BasicSwap and enhancing certain DEX components to ensure broader asset compatibility.
We must note that progress on that end is happening slower than hoped due to a variety of roadblocks related to the nature of some of the cryptocurrencies we are integrating. However, we believe that starting next week should see the beginning of the testing process for some of these coins as we're finally coming to the end of their integration process.
Don't forget that, as part of their integration process, we've reworked some of the components of the DEX to make it more readily compatible with a wider array of coins, which means we'll generally be able to integrate new coins more easily in the future.
We're continuing work on refining the New Offer page, along with integrating more minor improvements to the user interface. As it stands today, the New Offer page is nearly ready and we expect to start testing the new layout shortly. We will publish these changes live once ready and properly tested.

On Thursday, the 29th of August, 2023, the fourth team funding request has been officially approved by Particl stakeholders with an impressive approval rate of 99.82%!
The proposal sought 35,250 PART per month from the treasury over a span of 12 months, followed by the requirement of a new funding request to be published and voted on by stakeholders once this one expires.
We are delighted to announce that this proposal received resounding approval from Particl stakeholders, achieving an outstanding 99.82% approval rate (exceeding the 60% minimum requirement) and a 55.24% participation rate (surpassing the 20% minimum threshold). The voting period spanned 5,040 blocks, with 2779 votes in favor of the proposal, and 5 votes against it.
We want to thank every one of you in the community for this vote of confidence and for participating in this democratic exercise. We are all very excited, and proud, to be able to keep on working on Particl, expanding its ecosystem, and stimulating its adoption along with you all.
We've also been making steady progress on the new website, as has been the case for the past couple of weeks, which we now expect to have a working version in internal testing soon. Live launch should follow shortly after that!

Once these changes are completed, BasicSwap DEX will be ready to welcome many new cryptocurrencies built on a wide variety of codebases, thus increasing its potential for adoption among other crypto communities.
We're continuing work on refining the New Offer page, along with integrating more minor improvements to the user interface. We will publish these changes live once ready.

This Tuesday, the on-chain voting period for the 4th team funding request (proposal 19), which seeks to fund the Particl team for the upcoming 12 months using the network's treasury funds, begun.
So far, we're observing a very good network participation rate of 50%, with only a single vote opposing the proposal.

This week, we've continued the process of exploring new coins for inclusion on BasicSwap and started working on a few integrations.
In the process, we've encountered unique challenges that necessitated improvements to the BasicSwap codebase. Inded, while the Particl blockchain can interpret transactions from various coins, the reverse isn't always true for some of the coins we're aiming to integrate. Given that BasicSwap was initially designed for a swift launch with the initial coin release lineup we had at that time, certain assets we're considering now aren't fully compatible with specific aspects of the existing codebase.
Consequently, we've now opted to embed additional functionalities directly into BasicSwap to ensure broader cryptocurrency compatibility moving forward. While these modifications aren't too extensive or expected to become time-consuming, they have been a focal point of our work this week.
In addition to the minor cosmetic updates highlighted in last week's report, we've begun refining the New Offer page. Our aim is to streamline the user experience by tucking most advanced options into a collapsible menu and focusing instead on what coins, and what amounts, users want to swap.
This approach ensures a quicker and more intuitive interface, preventing users from being overwhelmed by technical choices. However, these options remain easily accessible for advanced users who seek them.

Last week, we have published a fourth funding request to ensure the continued growth of the Particl project and to support the wide-ranging operations of the team.
We can now announce that voting will start next Tuesday and last from block 1,493,000 to block 1,498,039, for a total of 5,040 blocks.
Because this proposal does not propose changes to the protocol, it will require a participation rate of 20% or more of the total supply and an approval rate of 60% or more to be considered valid.

A reminder: our selection criteria encompasses not just a coin's merit, but also our ability to efficiently support and assist users when required. Often, it is during the initiation of an integration that we identify specific challenges or limitations. As a result, while some integrations may begin, they might be deferred if they prove overly time-intensive, especially considering our priority to advance the web framework.
We've also worked on yet another series of small cosmetic changes and additional code clean-up to the DEX's GUI. These minor changes will soon be merged to the live version of BasicSwap, and you will then be able to update your instance to get them on your device!

This will ensure the continued growth of the Particl project and support the wide-ranging operations of the team. This blog post will outline the proposal and our objectives for the forthcoming months.

Reminder: The CCS platform is open to all. You, and anyone else, can submit proposals to request treasury funds to back projects and initiatives that contribute positively to the Particl ecosystem.
A year ago, the Particl team received its third round of funding from the treasury, approved by Particl stakeholders. Since then, we've made substantial strides across all aspects of the Particl ecosystem, particularly in regards to BasicSwap DEX, our latest privacy-first and pro-liberty dApp.
Here's a snapshot of our accomplishments and noteworthy news since the initiation of the third funding cycle.
In addition to the aforementioned completed milestones, we’re currently actively working on a couple of major items that align with Particl's ultimate vision. Our objective is to complete or make major progress on these during the forthcoming funding cycle while simultaneously working on various smaller deliverables.
Note: Just like any roadmap or medium-term planning, modifications to our plans may occur due to a variety of factors, such as, among others, emerging opportunities and changes in funding scenarios or team composition adjustments.
This funding request proposes a monthly claim of 35,250 PART from the Treasury Fund for a 12-month period to support the Particl team and fund its operations. Following the end of this period, the proposal will need to be renewed and receive the approval of Particl stakeholders once again to claim further funds.
As with the previous proposal, the team has chosen to claim funds for an entire year to ensure steady support for current endeavors and ease the logistics associated with potential external funding possibilities and hiring processes.
Given the current PART price, the funds requested in this proposal are primarily allocated to fund the ongoing development cycle at the current pace, as well as cover various operational expenses.
Should the PART price and liquidity improve, any additional coins will be accumulated in the team’s reserves to be directed towards financing a variety of marketing, communications, community, and outreach efforts to enhance the ecosystem and its dApps. An example of such endeavour was Particl's recent participation at both Monerotopia and Monerokon a few months ago.
Note: All funds voted to be allocated to the Particl team are held and managed by SoonTM Development Ltd, an independent software development company.
The Particl team is exploring several external funding options and is continuously assessing various proposals we receive related to third-party market liquidity or capital injections. This aims to supplement the funds drawn from the network's treasury by either providing non-PART funds to the team or building a healthier PART landscape and a more liquid market environment for everyone.
While we remain flexible and open to innovative solutions in this aspect, we are acutely aware of any potential impacts such initiatives could have on the project, market, and community. Thus, we're taking a cautious and deliberate approach, and cannot provide any guarantees regarding the outcomes of these initiatives if none ultimately prove beneficial to the project and its community.

Note: Just like any roadmap or medium-term planning, modifications to our plans may occur due to a variety of factors, such as, among others, emerging opportunities and changes in funding scenarios or team composition adjustments.
This funding request proposes a monthly claim of 35,250 PART from the Treasury Fund for a 12-month period to support the Particl team and fund its operations. Following the end of this period, the proposal will need to be renewed and receive the approval of Particl stakeholders once again to claim further funds.
As with the previous proposal, the team has chosen to claim funds for an entire year to ensure steady support for current endeavors and ease the logistics associated with potential external funding possibilities and hiring processes.
Given the current PART price, the funds requested in this proposal are primarily allocated to fund the ongoing development cycle at the current pace, as well as cover various operational expenses.
Should the PART price and liquidity improve, any additional coins will be accumulated in the team’s reserves to be directed towards financing a variety of marketing, communications, community, and outreach efforts to enhance the ecosystem and its dApps. An example of such endeavour was Particl's recent participation at both Monerotopia and Monerokon a few months ago.
Note: All funds voted to be allocated to the Particl team are held and managed by SoonTM Development Ltd, an independent software development company.
The Particl team is exploring several external funding options and is continuously assessing various proposals we receive related to third-party market liquidity or capital injections. This aims to supplement the funds drawn from the network's treasury by either providing non-PART funds to the team or building a healthier PART landscape and a more liquid market environment for everyone.
While we remain flexible and open to innovative solutions in this aspect, we are acutely aware of any potential impacts such initiatives could have on the project, market, and community. Thus, we're taking a cautious and deliberate approach, and cannot provide any guarantees regarding the outcomes of these initiatives if none ultimately prove beneficial to the project and its community.
Note: This proposal has been created under the assumption that no external funds will be raised, and it is sufficient to cover the team’s fundamental ongoing expenses

Back in May 2023, we traveled to Mexico City as the BasicSwap team to attend Monerotopia 2023. For this edition of the Monero-centric conference, they've decided to welcome various privacy-focused cryptocurrency and blockchain projects. There, we not only hosted a booth and forged valuable connections, but also presented, on the event's main stage, BasicSwap DEX, its mission, story, and role within the broader privacy subset of the cryptocurrency economy.

Since this presentation, we've been hard at work improving BasicSwap's core tech and elevating its user experience.
Firstly, we've introduced a basic liquidity providing / market making tool that anyone can deploy and operate from home. While it falls short of any advanced feature, such as what would be possible via something like a Hummingbot integration, it enables more automated and logic-based management of your liquidity and offers. Of course, we plan on much more all-emcompassing solutions moving forward; this is merely the first initial step towards more comprehensive solutions in the future.
We've also pursued our work on implementing a series of user interface improvements, simplifying and refining the end-user experience. These updates have also significantly streamlined the code, enhancing the app's efficiency.
Finally, and perhaps most notably since the Monerotopia presentation, we've added the long-awaited bidirectional atomic swap functionality for Monero. As explained in this blog post, Monero atomic swaps, despite their groundbreaking nature, were previously limited by a significant technical constraint: offers could only request Monero, not offer it for other cryptocurrencies, leading to a 'one-way swapping only' scenario.
Our latest update addresses this limitation, enabling 'two-way' Monero swapping or, in other words, allowing you to offer Monero when creating swap offers on BasicSwap's order book. While this clever workaround, made possible by the SMSG network, doesn't resolve the technical limitation at the protocol level, it does so at the end-user level, making the user experience seamless with no additional steps, fees, or encumbrances.
This development positions atomic swap-based Monero DEXs like BasicSwap as a viable alternative to data-hungry and oftentimes straight up irresponsible centralized exchanges. It significantly enhances the resilience of Monero and PART (Anon) to external attacks and censorship campaigns.
With the successful launch of the major bidirectional Monero atomic swap update, our attention, in regards to BasicSwap, is now concentrated on three key areas.
Firstly, we are actively exploring the addition of more cryptocurrencies to the platform. Though we've had to postpone this expansion to prioritize core aspects of the DEX, the demand for new additions has remained strong, with many requests originating directly from representatives of projects seeking to be included on our platform. Therefore, we are now assessing the integration feasibility of several coins and hope to add a few of them in the coming weeks, alongside our ongoing work on other areas.
Secondly, we are in the process of developing a web framework that will enable BasicSwap-powered web services to be easily accessed through a web browser. For example, envision web-based exchanges akin to Changelly or ChangeNow, but driven by a completely decentralized exchange protocol (BasicSwap). This significant advancement is crucial in making BasicSwap DEX accessible to the wider crypto community, including those with less technical expertise. Moreover, the development of this web framework will allow integrations with various applications, platforms, or wallets. A prime example, as pointed out in Dr. Kap's presentation at Monerotopia, is the integration of the DEX into Particl Marketplace, which would allow for the use of other cryptocurrencies during checkout, while still settling the transaction in PART. This is but one example of what can be possible with a web framework built for integrations.
Lastly, we are committed to enhancing BasicSwap's scalability. We are considering two potential solutions for this. The first involves creating what we have temporarily named \"SMSG 2.0\". Although referred to as 2.0, this initiative actually requires constructing a new SMSG-like mixnet from the ground up, designed for near-infinite scalability. Though we have a design and some initial coding in place, achieving a production-ready level will demand significant time and effort. Therefore, we are also exploring alternative mixnets such as XX Network, Session, Nym, etc., to gauge the possibility of incorporating one or several of them into BasicSwap. Depending on the daily usage of BasicSwap, a balancing system could distribute the messaging load across all integrated mixnets, thus ensuring the DEX's scalability for early but substantial adoption.
And while we believe strongly in the scalability potential of SMSG 2.0, the system balancing messaging load across multiple mixnets might remain even after its readiness, if it proves effective, as it may further bolster the resiliency and decentralization of the DEX.
Of course, the elements we are currently focusing on, including the integration of more complex cryptocurrencies into BasicSwap, are substantial and will require time to fully develop. However, these efforts are paramount to realizing our vision of a seamlessly interconnected, privacy-first, and pro-liberty digital economy. Equally important is making this economy as accessible as possible, to ensure that it can be embraced by a wide audience.
Once implemented, these three significant advancements will position BasicSwap DEX to challenge traditional centralized exchanges and catalyze the broader adoption of a crypto economy that's truly independent of the legacy \"fiat system\".

This goes a long way in preserving our liberties and financial privacy by making Monero, and PART (Anon), invincible to the relentless attacks against it, especially at the exchange level.
Although there's a considerable amount of work remaining before BasicSwap and other Monero-friendly DEXs can supplant centralized exchanges in the mainstream, particularly in relation to our development of a web framework and light/remote services, we're incredibly excited by this significant milestone and hope it will enhance BasicSwap's appeal and usability for a wider range of Monero users.

To fully comprehend the significance of bidirectional adaptor signature atomic swaps, it's essential to first explore the historical development and functionality of conventional, unidirectional semi-scriptless swaps.
As we outlined in a recent blog post, atomic swaps have long-been available to the general public ever since the advent of basic HTLC-based atomic swaps, a technology that was first implemented by the Decred team.

To mitigate this issue, we have devoted consistent effort to developing a solution, with the goal of providing Monero users with the same advantages enjoyed by users of other coins on a DEX like BasicSwap.
We are proud to announce that we’ve finally implemented bidirectional Monero atomic swaps into BasicSwap mainnet, now available on the live beta and accessible for everyone! This breakthrough implies that the prior constraints on Monero users are no longer relevant, and that Monero users can now both request AND offer Monero when adding offers on BasicSwap's order book.
Monero atomic swaps being solely a unidirectional process is a direct consequence of Monero's robust codebase which offers limited scripting capabilities, but enhanced resilience against different types of exploits.
As such, we achieved bidirectional swaps without altering the Monero codebase or making extensive changes to Joel Gugger’s adaptor signature-based Monero atomic swap protocol (beyond our previous enhancements to the protocol's privacy and transaction size management, as detailed here).
Instead, our strategy leveraged BasicSwap's strong suit — its use of the SMSG network with a focus on end user experience. After all, BasicSwap's primary goal as a DEX protocol is to simplify the process of atomic swaps and make it easy and more accessible for people to transition away from centralized exchanges. Therefore, user experience is paramount and is what truly matters in our case.
On BasicSwap, the offerer creates a swap request or 'offer' on the DEX’s order book, while participants (aka 'bidders') take a look at the order book, locate an offer that interests them, and initiate a swap. This process mirrors the maker-taker system of traditional centralized cryptocurrency exchanges.
However, this user experience isn't inherently part of atomic swap technology, as we've outlined in this blog post, but is facilitated by Particl's unique SecureMessaging Network (SMSG), a decentralized, privacy-first messaging network, also known as 'mixnets' (see this article for more information on SMSG).
The SMSG network serves as a powerful tool and a crucial component in making BasicSwap DEX a user-centric platform. Turns out, it also ultimately became the key to implementing bidirectional Monero atomic swaps.
Our solution to the unidirectionality of Monero atomic swaps doesn't hinge on modifying the Monero codebase or its adaptor signature atomic swap protocol. Instead, it leverages the SMSG network to simulate offers featuring Monero.
In reality, BasicSwap still employs the same semi-scriptless adaptor signature protocol. Hence, at the protocol level, the swaps remain unidirectional. However, by integrating an additional automated step into the swap process — powered by the SMSG network — we've made it appear as if Monero can now be offered.
Even though it is fundamentally a clever workaround — essentially providing the illusion of a truly bidirectional swap — it is entirely seamless for the end user and doesn't necessitate any additional manual input or requirements.

From this, it's clear that the base protocol stays the same, but there are a few more steps and processing involved — all occurring in the background without necessitating further human intervention.
Indeed, whereas a PART (or BTC) to XMR swap would send a bid, a XMR to PART swap instead sends a 'bid request' that has to be accepted by the bidder. A bid is then constructed from this request and the protocol proceeds as normal, just with the parties transposed.

Earlier this week, the yearly coin emission rate of the Particl blockchain has successfully been reduced by 1%,, as was scheduled via hard-coding into the blockchain by the hardfork of the 12th of July, 2021.
This brings the annual rate down to 7%, a reduction from the previous 8%, with the next coin emission rate decrease slated for the 12th of July, 2025, at 5PM UTC, further reducing the rate to 6%.

Earlier this week, we rolled out version 2.0.2 of BasicSwap's user interface. This release contains a multitude of enhancements, additions, and fixes, a significant portion of which came directly from community feedback.
Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the modifications introduced by this update.
Now that this update is live, our next objective, on the desktop UI front, is to overhaul the DEX's 'New Offer' page. This revamp will be included in our forthcoming GUI update, specifically version 2.0.3.
We've once again made substantial strides towards the integration of bi-directional Monero atomic swaps into the BasicSwap DEX, although there is still no code officially merged on Github yet.
While progress towards completion of this important feature is satisfying, additional work and thorough testing are still needed before it is fully ready for deployment. But since this is Particl developer Tecnovert's current main focus, we expect this improved and key functionality to be ready relatively shortly.
With version 2.0.2 of BasicSwap's user interface live, we can now divert more resources towards the design of the new Particl website. Consequently, this should considerably speed up the completion process of this task, which has been in progress for some time.

Note: This week has seens some particularly time-consuming upstream merges, notably pertaining to modifications made to the libsecp256k1 library and the wallet db code. This, unfortunately, diverted time from other crucial tasks, but we've successfully implemented these merges into Particl Core.
cryptoguardEarlier this week, we rolled out version 2.0.2 of BasicSwap's user interface. This release contains a multitude of enhancements, additions, and fixes, a significant portion of which came directly from community feedback.
Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the modifications introduced by this update.
Now that this update is live, our next objective, on the desktop UI front, is to overhaul the DEX's 'New Offer' page. This revamp will be included in our forthcoming GUI update, specifically version 2.0.3.
We've once again made substantial strides towards the integration of bi-directional Monero atomic swaps into the BasicSwap DEX, although there is still no code officially merged on Github yet.
While progress towards completion of this important feature is satisfying, additional work and thorough testing are still needed before it is fully ready for deployment. But since this is Particl developer Tecnovert's current main focus, we expect this improved and key functionality to be ready relatively shortly.
With version 2.0.2 of BasicSwap's user interface live, we can now divert more resources towards the design of the new Particl website. Consequently, this should considerably speed up the completion process of this task, which has been in progress for some time.

This multipart series delve into the complex mechanics and intricacies of building a privacy-first DEX, and elucidate why such platforms are increasingly essential today and for the foreseeable future.

gerlofvanekEarlier today, we released a non-compiled version of BasicSwap's setup wizard to our testing group. Members can now test the wizard and provide feedback on any potential issues specific to their operating systems.
As we finalize the minor details for it, our next step will be to compile it into an .exe launcher for Windows, along with equivalent launchers for other operating systems. It's important to note that the initial wizard release will not include an .exe launcher to start BasicSwap after it is installed. However, the inclusion of this feature is planned for a subsequent release.
We've successfully resolved the majority of the bugs present in version 2.0.2 of the user interface and are currently incorporating a few final additions based on community feedback. Once these changes are implemented, we'll be ready for the official release.
As highlighted in last week's report, the 2.0.2 user interface and the new setup wizard will be launched simultaneously.
Those familiar with BasicSwap may be aware that the integration of Monero is currently partial. As it stands, you can't place offers on the order book offering Monero in exchange for other coins. If you possess Monero and want to swap it for another currency, you must choose an offer made by another user requesting Monero. That's why the Monero integration may sometimes be referred to as working \"one way\".
This situation is a result of an inherent limitation within Monero's coin structure and its adaptor signature-based swap protocol. However, we're excited to announce that we have begun the process of implementing our solution to this issue this week, ahead of our presentation at Monerokon. The fix won't be at the protocol level, rather leveraging SMSG and BasicSwap's order book system. However, from the perspective of the end-user, the outcome will be seamless, allowing them to finally swap Monero \"both ways\" — that is, to publish offers on the order book that both offer and request Monero.
While we would greatly like to have a basic demo of our solution available by next Friday, when Particl and BasicSwap developer Kewde is scheduled to present at Monerokon, we can't make any firm guarantee in that regard. For the time being, know that we're diligently working to make it a reality, and that we'll keep you up-to-date about progress on that end.

This week, our efforts have been focused on finalizing the setup wizard for BasicSwap. This tool will facilitate the installation and eventual launching of the DEX via a user-friendly interface. This advancement aligns us with the convenience of a .exe type of executable, essentially enabling you to configure and launch BasicSwap without the need to navigate through the command line interface.
The setup wizard is largely complete, but we are still refining its design and the overall user journey within the GUI. Therefore, we've opted to hold the release of the v2.0.2 GUI until the setup wizard is ready.
Simultaneously, we have identified and are addressing a few GUI bugs within the 2.0.2 version of the BasicSwap user interface, and so we're fixing those at the same time.
We've been adding some functions based on user feedback, notably the ability to prune data off of your local instance. For example, in the next update, you'll be able to delete past offer and bid history (as long as they are completed).
Please bear in mind that this enhancement is primarily intended to improve user experience rather than privacy. If an instance were to be scrutinized after data deletion, remnants of previous swaps may still be detected. We plan to introduce thorough data pruning in a privacy-conscious manner in the future, as this requires additional development.

As we conclude the week, it is time to review the progress that has been made in the past few days. Let us take a moment to evaluate the advancements achieved in the past few days.
We're still completing the items outlined in our previous updates, namely including enhancing Tor server capabilities and making a variety of minor improvements.
Please note, however, that we are currently observing a delay that is impacting the the development process of Particl Desktop which we hope to resolve shortly.

Earlier this week, we rolled out the first iteration of a rudimentary liquidity-providing script.
This companion tool simplifies the process of providing liquidity on the order book, offering dynamic management and automatic republishing of offers once they expire.
The goal of this tool is to create a more hands-off and simplified process for those looking to provide liquidity. We invite you to test it out now and start populating the BasicSwap order book with offers!
We are still wrapping up the last few user interface changes and bug fixes mentioned in our previous update and expect the GUI v2.0.2 to go live very shortly, though we are now squeezing in a new item into this release.
In fact, we've been working on an installation wizard for BasicSwap designed to guide you through the entire process with an intuitive user interface. Launching the setup wizard will be as simple as clicking on its icon, eliminating the need for manual command entries into the terminal.
In a subsequent update, we plan on going ahead with a launcher icon, aiming to provide a user experience as seamless as launching a .exe file. We hope these additions will reduce the barrier to entry for using BasicSwap DEX on your desktop.
