As the full in-depth legal review of Particl, including the current Particl Marketplace design and now BasicSwap DEX as well, continues, we're preparing a series of steps to improve Particl's long-term resiliency.
Consequently, most of our desktop development has focused once again on wallet-related features, although we've started working on marketplace-related changes once again yesterday.

With this in mind, we will be carrying all considerations made here into the design of the new marketplace (tentatively being referred to as \"Particl Marketplace V2\"), which is being designed as a more open-ended, accessible, and user-friendly iteration.
As such, we are deferring work on marketplace features as well as the TAILS and Tor deliverables until after we complete our reassessment.
As we're progressing through the wallet-related improvements planned for Particl Desktop, we've pushed, earlier this week, a new Particl Core update to the desktop client.
To run the new Core version, simply launch Particl Desktop, or restart it if it's already running, and the update will automatically start.

In light of recent regulatory concerns around the use of anonymity in cryptocurrencies and decentralized systems, we share our thoughts on the purpose of privacy in decentralized eCommerce platforms, specifically with regards to protecting user safety and data sovereignty.
Nearly two decades ago, Bitcoin was introduced as a digital currency aiming to provide financial freedom and personal sovereignty globally, irrespective of one's background or circumstances.
And while it spawned an incredible revolution, both in technological progress and online discourse, the proposed solution unfortunately fell short of accomplishing its stated mission.
Contrary to early assumptions, Bitcoin transactions are far from private. In fact, they often fare worse than traditional fiat currencies in preserving financial confidentiality. Indeed, fiat systems typically handle fund transfers through secured channels designed to safeguard users' financial data from unauthorized public exposure.
In stark contrast, all Bitcoin transactions are permanently recorded on a public ledger, openly exposing the entirety of one's financial details to any curious observer. In fact, transaction tracing capabilities have advanced significantly in the past few years, driven in part by regulatory requirements like Know-Your-Customer (KYC) compliance that have necessitated increased transaction monitoring by financial services.
Historically, only regulatory bodies and financial institutions had access to detailed reports of users' on-chain financial histories through partnerships with blockchain analytics firms however, the ability to effectively deanonymize transactions and map them to real-world identities is rapidly proliferating to new actors — most concerningly, criminals, hackers, and other malicious entities intent on exploiting this data for financial gain at the expense of unsuspecting victims — thanks to the rapid evolution of large language models and artificial intelligence that have spawned widely accessible tracing protocols.
These escalating privacy vulnerabilities underscore the paramount importance of developing robust privacy-preserving solutions for cryptocurrencies across the globe, such as, among others, ”privacy coins”. Maintaining financial confidentiality is not merely a luxury but an essential capability to safeguard users operating in these systems.
However, when it comes to decentralized commerce – the logical evolution beyond decentralized currencies – merely utilizing privacy coins is not sufficient. While on-chain transactions may be inherently private, the platforms facilitating purchases and sales represent another significant attack vector that must be addressed.
As regulatory obligations evolve, businesses operating centralized cryptocurrency platforms may be compelled to collect extensive user information, including transaction histories, associated identities, IP addresses, shipping details from buyers, sales data from sellers, and more. While one could reasonably expect regulatory bodies to handle such information responsibly, the same assurances cannot be extended to the platforms themselves, as highlighted in our previous articles on the imperatives of privacy here and here.

The logical solution, therefore, is to develop an eCommerce platform that is as decentralized as cryptocurrencies themselves. Such a platform would operate in a purely peer-to-peer manner, built upon a truly decentralized architecture devoid of single points of failure or centralized components. The objective is to offer services akin to centralized eCommerce giants like eBay or Amazon, but without any central entity, thus eliminating the associated costs, fees, and frictions inherent to intermediaries. A \"decentralized online marketplace\", embodying Bitcoin's ethos, and providing a clear user experience improvement over centralized counterparts without data collection.
However, while recent advancements in blockchain and peer-to-peer technologies enable such decentralized eCommerce platforms, they also introduce new challenges in preserving users' financial data privacy and safety.

A notable example is the Target pregnancy prediction case, in which an unsuspecting father learned of his daughter's pregnancy due to ad targeting – a scenario we’ve also previously discussed here.

As the week ends, let's take a moment to look back at what we've achieved in the past few days and see what we've got to look forward to in the week to come.
This week has seen only minor progress on Particl Desktop due to our desktop developer being mostly unavailable. However, we expect desktop development pace to start picking up starting today.
Remember that, in the interest of pushing updates more quickly and as the array of dependency updates are rather time-consuming due to the accrued development debts of the past few months, we may opt to push out Particl Desktop 3.3.3 with most of the updates and fixes mentioned above included, and push a subsequent update (i.e., 3.3.4) addressing the remaining larger dependency updates.
Note: Particl Desktop development is currently being worked on on a part-time basis, which is expected to result in slower development pace compared to Core or BasicSwap DEX. However, we expect to resume development of this department on a full-time capacity in the near future.
In our commitment to maintaining the safety and integrity of Particl Marketplace, we've resumed our research into a better, more efficient content moderation system. Those familiar with the project know about the already-existing crowdsourced moderation system which, while functional, is still in its early stages and needs further refinement to effectively minimize exposure to undesirable content for the end-user while improving it's pro-activity.
Moderating a decentralized marketplace without introducing central points of failure is a real challenge. On one hand, it cannot put too much responsibility on end-users, as that means they have to be constantly exposed to undesirable content so that they can vote it out. But on the other hand, it also cannot put that responsibility into specific users, moderation staff, groups of people, or organizations, as that defeats the very purpose of a decentralized system and introduces central points of failure and liability.
Our proposed solution would leverage Particl's staking pools, voting delegation, and the potential of LLM (large language models) to more proactively moderate content. This innovative approach would allow for pre-screening based on community-driven policies, removing inappropriate listings before they even reach users. The end result is a painless user experience that is free from undesirable content and doesn't require the end-user to act as a moderator and be exposed to undesirable content.
Keep in mind that this system is still theoretical, with ongoing research focused on integrating LLM capabilities and refining the implementation strategy without any sacrifice to the level of decentralization or privacy. Once fully deployed, this model could lead the way in terms of decentralized moderation without central points of failure or undue burden on users.
We will continue our research and provide a detailed update on Particl News once we finalize the design. This approach, if successful, could set a precedent for addressing moderation challenges in decentralized environments without sacrifices to decentralization.

If you would like to test these changes before they make it into the master branch, you can change your active BasicSwap branch to the dev branch (using git checkout dev) and updating BasicSwap as you would typically do for a regular update.

This week's desktop-related work has been focused on making progress with the updates for Particl Desktop 3.3.3, this time pivoting towards progressing on the various feature updates planned for it.
In the interest of pushing updates more quickly, and as the array of dependency updates are rather time-consuming due to the accrued development debts of the past few months, we may opt to push out Particl Desktop 3.3.3 with most of the updates and fixes mentioned above included, and push a subsequent update (i.e., 3.3.4) addressing the remaining larger dependency updates.

We are happy to announce that Decred, a pioneering cryptocurrency in atomic swap technology, will be integrated into BasicSwap in the coming weeks.
Indeed, the Decred community has voted to support the team in coding the integration of Decred into the DEX, ensuring its inclusion and access to all current and future features, releases, and related products or services on BasicSwap.
Consequently, we've begun work on the integration last weekend. Although Decred uses a UTXO codebase, its components are coded in Go, which requires the development of Go compatibility within certain components of the DEX. While this requires additional effort, it should not present a major obstacle and are confident that it will be integrated and ready for testing within the next few weeks.
Community member ofrnxmr has recently fundraised via both the Wownero and Particl communities to code an integration for Wownero, the Monero-derived memecoin.
While a couple of normal roadblocks have been encountered, steady progress is being made and we should soon see this new coin make its way onto the DEX. We are ready to review and merge the integration once ready.
You can follow ofrnxmr on Twitter for updates regarding progress on that matter.
While a few things have diverted our attention from focusing exclusively on the GUI this week, we have continued work on the user interface, focusing on the New Offers page and still pushing changes to the Wallets and individual Coin Wallet pages, but also adding the required assets to prepare for Decred's integration.
Keep an eye out for updates being pushed to the dev branch on Github, and as always, if you would like to test these changes before they make it into the master branch, you can change your active BasicSwap branch to the dev branch (using git checkout dev) and updating BasicSwap as you would typically do for a regular update.
We're also preparing an update to the Windows installer based on a variety of feedback and bug reports received from the community. The update is expected to go live shortly.

We've continued the development and testing of an optional anti-griefing protection system to raise security for liquidity providers on the DEX.

This new feature allows users posting offers to require an additional on-chain PART fee from bidders, which is burned, adding a cost to fake/abandoned swaps or malicious activity such as liquidity locking and draining funds through on-chain fees required from the offerer.
This deterrent, while optional and at the discretion of the offerer, is part of our broader strategy to progressively implement safeguards against various potential abuses over time.
In a bid to facilitate the integration of different cryptocurrencies into the DEX, we've applied a small update to the codebase which allows for multiple base58 prefix bytes.
This was a requirement for the integration of Wownero, among other coins, that is currently being undertaken by community member ofrnxmr.

We're happy to announce that Particl Desktop developer Arnold Bansemer has officially resumed work on Particl Desktop as of this week.
Over the course of the next few weeks, you can expect many changes to be pushed to Particl Desktop, which will culminate into the three major deliverables that we've mentioned last week, namely Particl Desktop 3.3.3, Particl Desktop 3.4, and the required changes to make Particl Desktop compatible with the hyper-private and secure TAILS OS.
Has work only resumed now, we will have more details on the progress being made to the below items next week.
The most immediate desktop release will focus on minor fixes and items that were earmarked for it when development paused a few months ago.
The subsequent release will be almost exclusively focused on marketplace-related bug fixes and improvements. The goal with this update is to get the marketplace to a satisfactory level of stability and usability while we transition towards building the new marketplace dApp.
Additionally, we're exploring the requirements to make Particl Desktop compatible with the hyper-private and amnesic TAILS Linux OS. While we have no specific deliverables to announce regarding this, it seems likely that this will require a specific TAILS-focused version of Particl Desktop as it requires files to be managed differently so that it can work in conjunction with persistent memory (i.e., storing required data like orders, Seller Templates, or the blockchain on a USB stick) more easily.

This week took a bigger than usual chunk of our Core developer's time, with larger and more intricate updates being applied to the code.
GetAntiDoSWorkThreshold check where new blocks with lower difficulty than a block 1440 blocks ago are ignored.PermittedDifficultyTransition, which disallows a block if its difficulty is higher than a set amount than the difficulty of the last block.Due to the time-consuming core updates that have been worked on this week, our code developer has had less time to dedicate to BasicSwap, which has resulted in no code updates being pushed this week.
We've successfully completed testing on recent UI enhancements and have moved them from the dev branch to the master branch, including some changes that were directly pushed to master.
These updates are live and you can now upgrade your BasicSwap instance to access these new changes.

As the week ends, let's take a moment to look back at what we've achieved in the past few days and see what we've got to look forward to in the week to come.
We're happy to announce that Particl Desktop developer Arnold Bansemer has officially resumed work on Particl Desktop as of this week.
Over the course of the next few weeks, you can expect many changes to be pushed to Particl Desktop, which will culminate into the three major deliverables that we've mentioned last week, namely Particl Desktop 3.3.3, Particl Desktop 3.4, and the required changes to make Particl Desktop compatible with the hyper-private and secure TAILS OS.
Has work only resumed now, we will have more details on the progress being made to the below items next week.
The most immediate desktop release will focus on minor fixes and items that were earmarked for it when development paused a few months ago.
The subsequent release will be almost exclusively focused on marketplace-related bug fixes and improvements. The goal with this update is to get the marketplace to a satisfactory level of stability and usability while we transition towards building the new marketplace dApp.
Additionally, we're exploring the requirements to make Particl Desktop compatible with the hyper-private and amnesic TAILS Linux OS. While we have no specific deliverables to announce regarding this, it seems likely that this will require a specific TAILS-focused version of Particl Desktop as it requires files to be managed differently so that it can work in conjunction with persistent memory (i.e., storing required data like orders, Seller Templates, or the blockchain on a USB stick) more easily.

This week took a bigger than usual chunk of our Core developer's time, with larger and more intricate updates being applied to the code.
GetAntiDoSWorkThreshold check where new blocks with lower difficulty than a block 1440 blocks ago are ignored.PermittedDifficultyTransition, which disallows a block if its difficulty is higher than a set amount than the difficulty of the last block.Due to the time-consuming core updates that have been worked on this week, our code developer has had less time to dedicate to BasicSwap, which has resulted in no code updates being pushed this week.
We've successfully completed testing on recent UI enhancements and have moved them from the dev branch to the master branch, including some changes that were directly pushed to master.
These updates are live and you can now upgrade your BasicSwap instance to access these new changes.

In addition to these updates, we've made progress on revamping various pages and templates, notably the \"Wallets\" page, which now includes QR code functionality, and improvements to the \"New Offer\" page among others.

We're excited to share an exciting update regarding Particl Desktop. We've finally been able to address the issue that has delayed its development recently and we're on track to resume work on Particl Desktop 3.x in approximately two weeks.
Once it starts up once gain, we'll work towards completing the V3 desktop development cycle, and then, jump right into the next phase which will be more heavily focused on marketplace development (more information about the new marketplace dApp coming shortly).
Until then, our immediate desktop-related focus will include releasing versions 3.3.3 and 3.4. Version 3.3.3 will tackle urgent bug fixes and improvements, while version 3.4 will be dedicated almost solely on refining the marketplace following some of our vendors' feedback. Next week, we'll outline the specific fixes and improvements planned for these updates.
We're thrilled to resume progress on Particl Desktop and look forward to concluding its V3 development stage, allowing us to finally transition towards the next significant project milestones.
In conjunction with work on Particl Desktop resuming, we've crafted a roadmap a few weeks ago outlining the project's upcoming milestones post-V3. While we're already adhering to this roadmap internally and are more than eager to share it with the community, we must await a specific trigger before we do.
This has unfortunately pushed back our announcement schedule slightly, but we anticipate sharing it with you soon. As such, its announcement has no current ETA.

Over the past few days, Firo and PIVX have both pushed consensus-changing core updates that aren't backward compatible. That means you must update your node as soon as possible, else your node(s) will become out of sync once their respective hardforks take place.
As such, we've made these core updates available to BasicSwap users, and you must update your node as soon as possible if you've enabled either or both of them.
Note: PIVX's 5.6.1 core update includes minor fixes from the mandatory 5.6.0 version.

While full MWEB swaps aren't yet an option on BasicSwap, you still have the ability to swap Litecoin using either the Secret Hash method or the more privacy-centric Adaptor Signature protocol for atomic swaps. This means you can trade Litecoin for any of the other cryptocurrencies available on the DEX, including Monero, Bitcoin, Particl, and many more.
To make it easier for you to provide liquidity on the DEX, we've introduced a companion automated market making script. This tool runs in tandem with the DEX, automatically republishing your offers on the order book once they expire and adjusting their prices to align with the current market rate.
Additionally, you have the option to configure the script to list your offers with a premium over the market rate. This feature provides an opportunity for passive income as others pick up and trade with your offers.
The first thing we recommend if you intend on providing liquidity via the companion script is to get a reliable 24/7 BasicSwap instance that requires no manual input from you once setup.
You can easily do this by installing the DEX on a cloud/VPS server. This is extremely useful because, once deployed, it won't require you to keep your computer on at all time and won't cost you storage space or CPU power on your personal computer.
While there is a cost associated with hosting a VPS, our second video, which shows how to run the automated market making script on BasicSwap, may help in offsetting the costs by setting a premium over the market rate and have other people pick up your swap offers.
The second video tutorial shows you how to deploy BasicSwap's companion automated market making script on the cloud instance we've just set up. This allows you to provide liquidity on the order book in a completely automated manner, ensuring that your offers are republished when they expire.

Technically, MWEB is distinct because it fundamentally alters how transactions are constructed in Litecoin's blockchain. Unlike traditional blockchain models, where individual transactions are visible, MWEB combines multiple transactions into a single large transaction. This is achieved by using confidential transactions, which allow the sending and receiving of amounts to be encrypted. The encryption is done using blinding factors, ensuring that only the transaction parties can decrypt the amounts. Moreover, MWEB employs a novel approach called \"CoinJoin,\" which merges multiple payment inputs and outputs to obscure the link between individual transactions, greatly enhancing privacy.
The benefits of MWEB in Litecoin are substantial.
