As the week ends, let's take a moment to look back at what we've achieved in the past few days and see what we've got to look forward to in the week to come.
This week, we've conducted more extensive testing of the AI-based moderation script, and we're pleased to report that it's performing exactly as intended with the marketplace. We've also successfully integrated the majority of additional features designed to optimize its user-friendliness.
Currently, we require a bit more time to evaluate the script's performance across a broader range of test listings. Our goal is to cover as many edge cases as possible to ensure robustness.
We're nearing the stage where we'll be ready to publish a detailed blog post explaining the script's functionality, along with releasing its code.
We've pushed a improvements and bug fixes to the BasicSwap codebase. While these changes are not yet available from the master branch, you can access them by building from the dev branch (see here).

The voting for the fifth community funding proposal has concluded earlier this week and the results are in. In total, we've observed a participation rate of 50% of all staked blocks, and an approval rate of 84.5%, meaning that the proposal has been officially approved by Particl stakeholders!
We'd like to thank everyone that has participated in this voting process and we look forward to push great things for the Particl ecosystem in the months to come.
We've made significant progress this week with the AI-powered moderation tool for Particl Marketplace. Indeed, last week we mentioned that we were working on connecting it to the marketplace so that the voting decisions could actually be broadcast to the broader network, and we're happy to note that we've successfully achieved this.
We're now testing script for various cases and adding in some additional features to give more control to users, as well as make the user experience more intuitive, but all of that is part of the final stage of this script's development process.
We should be ready to start testing it across a wider selection of environments in the next couple of days, with a subsequent release happening shortly thereafter if everything goes smoothly.
We're preparing to submit several pull requests in the coming days that will improve BasicSwap's user interface and introduce new features.

As we close the chapter on our fourth funding cycle, we're thrilled to announce our fifth funding request. This new funding request marks a new phase for Particl, with a renewed strategy for innovation and growth within the PART ecosystem. In this post, we will outline our proposal and share our vision for the coming months.
The funding proposal is live on the CCS platform and is now open for community comments. Voting will start soon and will last for 5,040 blocks (approximately one week). We will notify you a few days before the voting period begins. In the meantime, you can review the proposal and share your thoughts by following this link.

The past year has been foundational for Particl, especially with regards to how we’ve been able to strategically position BasicSwap in such a way that will directly benefit the wider PART ecosystem. These developments and their relevance for the project and its continuation will be expanded further down this blog post.
Here are some highlights of our achievements since the last funding cycle:
While we recently encountered challenges in the development of Particl Marketplace, notably in terms of developer availability, these obstacles have led us to devote more time and effort towards BasicSwap. This strategic pivot has allowed us to make significant progress to the DEX, bringing BasicSwap to a level of maturity that opens up new possibilities for integration, adoption, and ecosystem revenue.
With this in mind, our current short-to-medium term goal is to keep on improving the DEX's codebase and develop an integration layer that will allow BasicSwap-powered swap services to be seamlessly incorporated into third-party applications such as mobile wallets, web platforms, and other services. These efforts not only seek to improve BasicSwap's accessibility, usability, and utility, but also align with our adaptive funding strategy in light of recent PART price fluctuations.
The recent market dynamics have presented challenges for the team, but they've also sparked innovation in our funding approach which we're very excited about.
Indeed, we're currently actively exploring various opportunities to monetize BasicSwap-powered services in ways that directly benefit the Particl community, without introducing any sort of compromises to the core principles of the DEX (decentralization, non-custodianship, privacy, freedom, etc).
Our immediate focus is on developing mutually beneficial partnerships for BasicSwap integrations. As a result, these collaborations could yield non-PART donations to support the team, while also allowing the implementation of various strategies that would increase the demand for PART — either via coin burning, external revenue deposited into the network treasury, or other similar mechanisms.
In other words, these recent efforts aim at providing the ecosystem and its contributors with a steady stream of revenue, providing a sustainable environment that allows for healthier growth of PART, its pool of contributors, and the project as a whole.
It's important to note, however, that we remain fully committed to keeping the BasicSwap protocol free and open. Our monetization efforts are solely targeted at third-party integrations, creating a mutually beneficial scenario for both the community and our partners.
We're also making strides in securing non-PART donations from communities that share our vision and/or want to be integrated into BasicSwap.
For instance, one of our beloved community contributors, Ofrnxmr, has recently submitted a CCS proposal to the Monero community that got funded, and we've also received a donation from the Decred community following our successful integration of their coin into BasicSwap.
These initiatives are part of our broader strategy to achieve full self-sustainability and reduce — or, in the best of cases, completely eliminate — our reliance on the network treasury over time while improving our products for the benefit of all.
These upcoming changes are the reason we are proposing a shorter team funding cycle this time around.
Indeed, this proposal seeks a monthly allocation of 35,250 PART from the Treasury Fund for a 6-month period. This funding will support the Particl team and fuel our operations as we work towards our goals of integration and self-sustainability.
We've opted for a 6-month funding request in order to provide stability for our current projects as we develop new ecosystem revenue streams while allowing flexibility for potential external funding opportunities and team expansion. This timeframe also gives our community the chance to discuss and propose modifications to the treasury model and coin emission rate.
Given the current PART price, the funds requested in this proposal are primarily allocated to fund the ongoing development cycle at the current pace, as well as cover various operational expenses.
Should the PART price and liquidity improve, any additional coins will be accumulated in the team’s reserves to be directed towards financing a variety of marketing, communications, community, and outreach efforts to support the ecosystem and its dApps.
Note: All funds voted to be allocated to the Particl team are held and managed by SoonTM Development Ltd, an independent software development company.
We're aware of the ongoing community discussions regarding potential changes to the treasury system, its parameters, and/or the blockchain's coin emission rate. These conversations are crucial for the long-term sustainability and health of the Particl ecosystem, and we strongly encourage their continuation.
Our decision to request funding for a shorter 6-month period, as opposed to a 12-month period as was the case with previous proposals, aligns directly with these discussions. It provides the flexibility needed to pursue our new funding strategy and adapt to any potential changes that may arise from community-driven proposals. Development of the LLM-powered moderation tool for Particl Marketplace continues to progress. We're currently in the process of integrating it with the marketplace to enable broadcasting of its voting messages via SMSG.
As we connect the tool to the marketplace, we're identifying and implementing additional functionalities that are crucial for ensuring a stable and user-friendly experience.
This integration phase is expected to continue for some time. We'll provide an update when we're ready to expand our testing group and involve more participants in the process.
We've made further progress in converting the adaptor signature swaps to C++, continuing to develop and push code for this effort. Notably, we've updated the custom secp256k1 library used in BasicSwap, which now has its own dedicated repository on BasicSwap's GitHub.
We've also forked and modified the coincurve library specifically for BasicSwap. This customized version has been added to BasicSwap's GitHub organization, allowing for more control and better security of the protocol.
In line with our new strategy of smaller, more frequent updates, we've continued to refine various user interface elements. These changes will be merged into the dev branch within the next few days. The upcoming update will include the following improvements:

While possible, we are currently testing what sort of performance using such a setup would result in, and if realistically usable, will likely end up being how portable versions of BasicSwap allow peers to communicate swap data with each other and access the DEX's order book (with alternative messaging layers being implemented as a secondary priority).
Additionally, we have begun research and early work into converting some of BasicSwap's components into C++, a requirement to allow for portable versions of BasicSwap that include adaptor signature atomic swaps and not just HTLC ones. Work on that end is likely to take a couple of weeks.

We've unfortunately hit some delays pushing the fixes we wanted to over the week as our front-end developer has been mostly unavailable due to health reasons. For this reason, the GUI-related section of this progress report remains the same as it was last week.
That means we're still gearing up to push a minor update in the next couple of days that will fix a few bugs and include a few improvements, notably to the display of QR codes in some cases.
Furthermore, we're hoping for a release of the larger GUI update we've been working on for the past few weeks somewhere next week, if all goes well.
This larger update will soon be available on GitHub and, as always, and you'll be able to test the changes before they go live by switching to the dev branch. The smaller update, however, will be available directly from the master branch.

cryptoguardEarlier this week, we published our fifth community funding proposal which aims to finance the ongoing operations of current Particl and BasicSwap contributors, as well as cover network-related expenses.

We have made good progress in merging the listing scanner API with the AI-powered moderation system. While this integration is still ongoing and requires further testing, we are pleased with the advancements made this week on that end.
Upon completion of this merger, our next step will be to connect the new moderation system to the marketplace itself, ensuring that nodes properly broadcast their votes when they need to and that they're applied to the relevant listings.
To provide maximum clarity about the architecture of this system, its implications, and the way it is expected to be used by users that wish to participate in moderating the marketplace, we plan to publish a detailed blog post on Particl News which will cover all the basics. However, we are waiting for the system to be completed and ready to be deployed first to allow us the flexibility to make any necessary adjustments to the system's components before release.
We've unfortunately hit some delays pushing the fixes we wanted to over the week as our front-end developer has been mostly unavailable due to health reasons. For this reason, the GUI-related section of this progress report remains the same as it was last week.
That means we're still gearing up to push a minor update in the next couple of days that will fix a few bugs and include a few improvements, notably to the display of QR codes in some cases.
Furthermore, we're hoping for a release of the larger GUI update we've been working on for the past few weeks somewhere next week, if all goes well.
This larger update will soon be available on GitHub and, as always, and you'll be able to test the changes before they go live by switching to the dev branch. The smaller update, however, will be available directly from the master branch.

Our current focus is now on integrating the two systems — the market scanner and the LLM-powered moderation tool. Once this integration is complete, we will be ready to deploy the new system.
It's important to note that the new moderation tool is entirely optional; no user will be required to run it nor will it come pre-packaged with or enabled-by-default in Particl Core. Additionally, moderation policies are fully customizable and are set by the individual user running an instance of this system. These policies are defined using natural language, thus allowing for a very intuitive setup.

While actual coding hasn't officially started, we expect to begin within a few days as we iron out the last few details. This item is the next major milestone for BasicSwap and will dramatically improve its user experience by making it more intuitive and easy to use via leverage of third-party applications such as already-established crypto wallets or fully integrated web platforms.
As always, we're designing this integration layer in such a way that will preserve decentralization and privacy as much as possible, as per the usual ethos that comes with BasicSwap and Particl.
Additionally, working on this integration layer will carry the additional benefit of completing several milestones identified in community contributor Ofrnxmr's proposal here.

We've made progress on developing the decentralized, LLM-powered moderation tool for the marketplace, however, we've met a roadblock related to its interaction with the Partyman cold staking application.
As such, we're instead looking at building a standalone moderation script that could run alongside Particl Core (or Partyman). We've made significant progress on developing the decentralized, LLM-powered moderation tool for the marketplace. Currently, we have two developers assigned to the task: one focusing on the LLM component and the other on marketplace-related adjustments.
We understand that the community has questions about the system's design and whether it will maintain the marketplace's decentralized and private ethos. While we plan to release an in-depth blog post explaining all details before the system's launch, we'd like to provide some additional information now.
It's important to understand that the current system will remain in place. Even with upcoming changes, it will still be possible to manually upvote and downvote listings directly in the application.
When first released, this system was announced as v0.1, with future iterations planned. Effective moderation of a decentralized system without third-party bias is challenging, and what we're working on is essentially v0.2 of that system.
This new version will use the same downvote/upvote mechanism where listings are removed from the marketplace's interface once they reach a negative threshold, but with more automation, resulting in a much improved user experience.
The updated system will run on staking nodes, and the Partyman cold staking application will likely include a script to guide users through enabling the system, setting moderation policies and rules, and consulting moderation history.
When enabled, the system will scan the marketplace and extract individual listing titles and descriptions, which will be processed through a decentralized LLM network to test against the user's moderation policies.
This improved version will ensure more effective and proactive marketplace moderation while reducing reliance on manual user interaction.
From an end-user perspective, more effective, automated content moderation will reduce encounters with undesirable listings before delisting them, benefiting marketplace adoption and directly addressing a theoretical attack vector.
We've noted concerns about the new system's level of decentralization and whether users will need to create accounts with AI service providers or run resource-intensive open-source models locally.
Rest assured, our innovative solution requires neither accounts nor local LLM instances. It utilizes a decentralized network of voluntary GPUs collectively running Llama-based models. Staking nodes will simply send messages to this decentralized LLM network and receive appropriate responses, which will then be processed by the rest of the moderation system.
In other words, decentralization and privacy remain intact, with no compromises caused by the new changes.
Once a response is received from the LLM network, the node will use the associated wallet's staking weight to upvote, downvote, or ignore the listing. The marketplace will tally votes for each listing, and if the negative threshold is reached, it will be removed, as per the current system.
Listings can also be upvoted to counterbalance downvotes, and the delisting threshold will be adjusted to account for the expected increased participation rate.
We'll publish a detailed blog post shortly before releasing this new version of the moderation system, including diagrams, in-depth information, and usage guides.
We're confident this new system will improve the user experience by reducing the moderation burden on end users while also improving efficiency.
We've also noticed concerns regarding a specific commit made in June to Particl Marketplace that would disable public markets and storefronts.
This commit was initially pushed as a proactive measure to prevent potential abuse of Particl Marketplace in case we couldn't rapidly improve the moderation system.
However, it's important to note that this commit has not yet been included in any release and, given our satisfactory progress on the new version of the moderation system, it now appears that implementing it will not be necessary.

Note: Because Wownero is a \"non-programmable\" cryptocurrency, it cannot yet be swapped against other non-programmable cryptocurrencies like Monero.

If you're installing BasicSwap for the first time, you can activate Wownero as part of the default installation process by either adding Wownero to the --withcoins= argument or by selecting it if you're using one of the automated installers (.exe installer on Windows or automated installation bash scripts).
After activation, launch BasicSwap and check the Wallets page to confirm your Wownero node is set up correctly. You may need to click the Refresh button for your wallet to appear.
The Wownero tile on the Wallets page shows a progress bar indicating your blockchain sync status. Note that 100% synchronization is required to view Wownero offers on the order book.
Once fully synced, you can begin swapping Wownero with other cryptocurrencies and place offers on the order book.

This release increases the maximum transaction relay size, adds new RPCs for Spark light wallet support, includes various optimizations to Spark and adding simplified sending to EX-addresses in the UI.
If you've enable Firo on BasicSwap, you must update your core wallet as soon as possible. Follow the instructions here to learn how to do it, or if you've installed BasicSwap using Ofrnxmr's bash scripts, you can simply run the upgrade script here.
basicswapWe've pushed a rather larger update to BasicSwap DEX's master branch this week, which includes 7,246 new lines of code added and 2,502 ones that have been removed. This excludes any work involved with adding or removing dependencies, which would bring this update to 32,695 lines added and 2,502 deletions should these be included in the calculation.
This significant update, which is the result of a couple of weeks of hard work from various contributors, significantly improves the codebase on a multitude of fronts at the same time.
Here is, with no particular sorting logic, a list of most of what's new (click on the numbers for their associated commits):
subaddr_indices_all to improve sweep_all for Monero (1)extkey (1)getWalletRestoreHeight for Decred (1)disableall option to the smsgaddresses command and ensure used addresses are active (1)min_bid_amount from offer template min_swap_ammount (1)This update also includes a wide variety of GUI-related improvements and fixes.

We haven't met bugs or issues with the Decred integration this week, which signals that it will be ready to be pushed to the master branch imminently.
We've been reviewing community contributor Ofrnxmr's integration of Wownero and built a few test cases to ensure that it is integrated without issues.
We're happy to report that Wownero is now mostly functional on BasicSwap and that, like Decred, we'd like to give it a few more days of testing before pushing to the master branch.
Both Decred and Wownero are now available on the dev branch on Github. If you would like to test these new coin integrations before they makes their way into the master branch, you can change your active BasicSwap branch to the dev branch (using git checkout dev) and update BasicSwap as you would typically do for a regular update.
If you come across any issue or bug with the either coin, please let us know so that we can rectify it before pushing the changes to the master branch.
We've continued work on the new Particl.io website which is now the main area of focus for our front-end and designer Crz.
Additionally, we've pushed some changes to BasicSwapDEX.com as well to better communicate its mission and decentralized nature. Notably, an important \"Terms and Conditions\" page, which explains the architecture of the DEX as well as important considerations, has been added. We highly recommend that you consult it here.
This Wednesday, we joined our friends from PIVX and Firo, as well as John Winter Murphy from Wownero, for an X Spaces in which we've discussed privacy coins, their transition into spendable currencies, and dived deeper into Wownero.

We haven't met bugs or issues with the Decred integration this week, which signals that it will be ready to be pushed to the master branch imminently.
We've been reviewing community contributor Ofrnxmr's integration of Wownero and built a few test cases to ensure that it is integrated without issues.
We're happy to report that Wownero is now mostly functional on BasicSwap and that, like Decred, we'd like to give it a few more days of testing before pushing to the master branch.
Both Decred and Wownero are now available on the dev branch on Github. If you would like to test these new coin integrations before they makes their way into the master branch, you can change your active BasicSwap branch to the dev branch (using git checkout dev) and update BasicSwap as you would typically do for a regular update.
If you come across any issue or bug with the either coin, please let us know so that we can rectify it before pushing the changes to the master branch.
We've continued work on the new Particl.io website which is now the main area of focus for our front-end and designer Crz.
Additionally, we've pushed some changes to BasicSwapDEX.com as well to better communicate its mission and decentralized nature. Notably, an important \"Terms and Conditions\" page, which explains the architecture of the DEX as well as important considerations, has been added. We highly recommend that you consult it here.
This Wednesday, we joined our friends from PIVX and Firo, as well as John Winter Murphy from Wownero, for an X Spaces in which we've discussed privacy coins, their transition into spendable currencies, and dived deeper into Wownero.
Although we've been hit with technical issues, the recordings are available for you to play back if you've missed the live event. Please note that the space is separated in two segments as we needed to relaunch it following a platform crash.

This year again, BasicSwap will be featured at Monerokon in Pragues. There'll be a workshop on BasicSwap today supplemented by a more formal presentation tomorrow on the main stage.

The full in-depth legal review of Particl and BasicSwap has now concluded and we're working on a series of steps to solidify Particl long-term.
Consequently, the desktop and marketplace-related development has gone towards this objective for the week.

We've successfully completed the Decred integration and have had successful swaps, on mainnet and in a production version, of Decred with Particl, Litecoin, and Monero.
However, we would like to take a few days more to test for edge cases and ensure beyond doubts that everything works as expected.
Once that is done, we'll announce the official end of the integration process, and it'll be possible for you to update BasicSwap and add Decred to your list of enabled coins.
